"No!" Flynn says, too-quickly, lurching up. "Of course not. You shouldn't do that to animals, either. I'm not saying they're animals, but, well." He's never thought this deeply about the distinction, is the thing, so rather than flailing about it he snaps his mouth shut with a hard frown, looking over at the bartender.

He watches the bartender tip a shot into a mixer with seemingly expert motions for a moment. She looks human. Looks like a human with a job, a person with hopes and dreams, maybe, except that she says the same thing day in and day out, like she's stuck on the same few lines of an old storybook.
"I guess," Flynn says, still watching her, "I don't know what would make them stop being people. Perhaps that's irrational of me, and I should be more scientifically-minded, but... they just feel human. Don't they?"
