There will be novelty quills in the store, but they can have ballpoint or fountain tips (or plain old feather tips but yknow). There are also spiral bound notebooks that are novelty: think in the shape of dragons or castles, or "aged" but it's actually printed.

The 1940s rule doesn't count for the novelty garbage which is a purely late-1900s invention!
