Daniel appears more intrigued than frightened as he peruses the notes—just as Palamedes would be if he hadn’t experienced those terrible disasters himself. In fact, even having witnessed the storms and the floods, he can still look back on them with a detached curiosity. If he couldn’t, he wouldn’t have been able to spot the patterns at all.
