The gravedigger is digging in new spots without grave markers. Though the ground is dry when she starts, she seems to keep hitting the elevated water table, making her holes collapse.
She is pointedly NOT digging near character graves, which is because, put simply: there is a chance something is in them. There's about a 75% chance that, when any given character grave is dug up, lying loose in the dirt is a dirty bloody skeleton looking a hell of a lot like the one that the doubles decompose into when they die. When uncovered, it twitches a few times, jerking like it wants to sit upright, and then lies still. It may continue twitching until covered back up, but it won't do anything beyond that.
