[Ruby for her part holds on as best she can. That is until her grip on Emerald's hand starts to loosen and eventually goes slack. Unfortunately this just means the work that Emerald has to do only gets harder along the way. Ruby isn't quite total dead weight, but she's having a hard time focusing on anything that might actually help with the effort.
By the time Emerald emerges on top of the pool of sand, Ruby finally slips out of consciousness. With Emerald's pull her arm does manage to flop up against the edge of the pool, and manages to keep her from slipping back in. But- Emerald's work isn't quite done yet.]
