Perhaps it seems a bit cold, how he watches him with the expressiveness of stone, even as Ademnet's own compliments follow soon after his word of gratitude. That he would end it on a similar note is intriguing, and not simply because of its sincerity, but because Barnabas wonders if such an admission might not have been prompted otherwise.
