Nicholas himself will be faced with many, many more eyes soon enough. But at the moment, the affliction is only starting - the guilt and slight headache are easy enough to explain away. The eyes, though, not so much. And not the way this kid is acting, either.

(It has occurred to Nicholas that all of this may be a dream. It'd certainly make a lot more sense of a lot of things. But it keeps going, and there doesn't seem to be a way to wake up. And as long as that's the case...then there's the chance that it's real.)

"You...look like you could use some water, kid." He looks like he needs a whole lot of things, but they can start with that. Nicholas steps closer, near enough that if the boy falls over (which seems likely), he'll be able to catch him.
