Hi!

I know we chatted a little on Plurk and I'm zooming in late, but I wanna say that the reference to Leigh Bardugo has my interest. I have NOT read the books of this series, but Six of Crows was one of the books that got me back into reading after a very long dry spell-- so SoC is up there with TLT and Murderbot Diaries on the list of Books That Helped Me Find My Inner Bookworm Again.

This is gonna be fun.

Hi! I am also a Six of Crows fan--Darlington's canon has very different vibes from those books, but it's definitely worth a try! If SoC's heist squad shenanigans were part of the draw for you, I can also confirm that Hell Bent has its own kind of heist plot going on, though there's also a lot more to the story.

Also, yay for finding your inner bookworm! Always a good feeling.

Hijacking this thread a little to add that although it is definitely a different tone than Six of Crows, the Alex Stern / Ninth House books do share certain dark academia and/or shades of gothic horror/romance strands with The Locked Tomb* so I feel like they belong on the same lists in a lot of ways even though their tones are also different.

(Also it's fun to explain that you enjoy "Ninth House, well, no, the other Ninth House but that too" and/or get indignant when one of those fan merch places that clearly just grabs the most popular phrase from every series on bookstagram tags them wrong because they both have Ninth Houses).

*also, a preoccupation with death and ghosts and the self, and a healthy grasp on social inequity running along in the background, not to mention a HUGE NERD and his cavalier badass female partner** in...stuff

**oh no I've just realized that "enormous nerd (particularly about magic and history, prone to near-death experiences) and his badass dark-haired girl partner (snarky, underestimated, canonically carries a knife) who are incredibly normal about each other" is a thing in my last THREE favorite series
