Cycle 4 Happenings

HAPPENINGS
What's been going on in Wellstone?

The intention of this Happenings post is to create more of a sense of a small town. If something may have been seen or heard publicly, like if your character punched a wall, publicly confessed their love, turned into a statue in an awkward position, built a sad little camp on the edge of town, left a message for a mysterious benefactor, whatever it is, put it here!

Who: Jaune Arc and...'Jaune Arc'?
What: Indoor craft table fun
Where: Staywell Manor parlour
When: Throughout January

Jaune has set up crafting tables using supplies he's been hoarding from the General Store. Feel free to include them as a background detail in threads, have your character contribute supplies or art of their own, or otherwise use them as you please. Jaune will be trying to collect everyone's art they leave out for safekeeping before the end of the cycle.

Who: Alec and Hijack
What: A scuffle
Where: Staywell Manor hallway
When: Early in the month

Keen eyes might notice that a vase usually on a decorative stand down one of the less travelled hallways is missing. If driven to investigate, they might find a small trace of blood staining the mortar between two stones in the wall.

The John Gaius Murderplot

Everyone is trapped in a locked manor, so let's make it a murder mystery! Palamedes will be investigating a series of murders involving John Gaius. Dates remain unspecified to give everyone maximum flexibility in their threads. I will keep this comment updated with crime scene information.

The first string of deaths occurs one night in early January:
The skeleton of Alec's double is found slumped in the foyer; magical investigation reveals that John (or his double) recently used necromancy on him. His clothing is punched through with many small stab wounds that match the receptionist's fancy pen.

Beside him is the receptionist, having recently respawned from a violent death. There are traces of his blood in the area, but John has used necromancy to wipe some of it away. Oddly, the receptionist isn't behaving quite right: whenever he reaches for an item, he misses slightly, as though he's a little off-kilter from the world.

In the next room over - the parlor - there are signs of a struggle. The skeleton of Olympia's double is slumped dead among overturned chairs and jostled tables. There's a splatter of her blood on the floor, as though she was shot or struck through the heart point-blank. Magical investigation again reveals that John (or his double) recently used necromancy on her.

For the next few days, John has lost the use of his left hand. Perceptive characters can notice him trying to hide this.
The next deaths occur scattered throughout mid-January:
Yuri's double has been murdered and the body has been removed. (Characters will only realize it's a crime scene if they use magical senses to reveal a recent death and use of necromancy.) An empty whiskey bottle was knocked off the table, but there's no other sign of a struggle.

Later, Loki's double has been killed and the skeleton left in Loki's room. There are major signs of struggle including a huge blood splatter and a broken window that has been badly covered up.
The final deaths occur scattered in late January:
At a cozy window seat in the parlor, Cece's teen double has been murdered and the body has been removed. (Characters will only realize it's a crime scene if they use magical senses to reveal a recent death and use of necromancy.) Her notebooks have been left behind, but there's no sign of a struggle.

The skeleton of Dax's double can be found in Dax's old room. John's magical signature is less fresh here; he used necromancy on her several weeks ago, but not to cause her death. There is no sign of a struggle.

Qrow's double fights John and Gideon on an upper-floor corridor that spills into a spare room. Gideon's blood, John's blood, and the double's blood are all present. The skeleton is left slumped against a wall.

Flynn's double died in the parlor after a struggle with Flynn and Yuri, which toppled chairs and damaged upholstery. John hastily removed the blood and the body. (John wasn't the killer, but that won't be apparent to necromantic senses.)

Who: Loki
What: A particularly cold room and a homeless god
Where: Loki's room and random spots around the manor
When: Mid-January to whenever the building collapses

When Loki's double is dealt with, the only significant noise that might be heard is broken glass. The real sign that something is different is the sudden cold and volume of the wind one might notice while passing Loki's door. For his part, Loki's not stupid enough to stay on the lower floors as the snow piles up, buuuut he's also not hanging out anywhere near his own room if he can help it. If anyone asks, he'll give a charming smile, make something up about forgetting he left a window open and remember how he didn't mind the cold? And then go find somewhere else to loiter.
