- John waves him over for a cup of tea or a pint of ale regularly. Feel free to assume he tells all these stories from prior cycles.

- Dax has challenged John to prove the existence of the soul to a non-necromancer. For probably no reason, John's usual lab partner Palamedes doesn't want to hang out anymore???? And Gaius is also a skeptic, but one that John can amiably bully into going along with him anyway. So Gaius gets to hear about John's efforts to make thanergy and spirit magic measurable to the layperson.

- He continues to go "Yes?" when anyone addresses "Gaius." This joke has been beaten into the ground by the end of the first day, which is why he likes it. It's so fucking dumb.

- He continues to intermittently reassure Gaius, unprompted, that his food and drink does not contain blood. Hope that helps.

I especially love that John is using him as the rubber duck for his thoughts on soul magic LMAO sometimes you need someone who has no idea what you're talking about to ask the obvious questions you've overlooked.

I like to think every time he's like "oh okay I think I can deal with this now" John throws in some other off-the-wall thing he can do and it just goes right back to being insane.

This joke will probably drive him insane but also like it's harmless and kind of endearing that John keeps it going, so he'll only roll his eyes A LITTLE.

On the one hand: thanks, very helpful, good to know there's no blood in the food
But also: reminded that this guy is once again just here, sensing all the blood in the place (great)
