Cycle 5 Happenings
HAPPENINGS
What's been going on in Wellstone?
The intention of this Happenings post is to create more of a sense of a small town. If something may have been seen or heard publicly, like if your character punched a wall, publicly confessed their love, turned into a statue in an awkward position, built a sad little camp on the edge of town, left a message for a mysterious benefactor, whatever it is, put it here!

What: Palamedes is going to jump his soul into the receptionist and the waiter! Nothing bad will happen because of this, and Pal will only discover that the NPCs are soul amalgamations. He will also learn that the receptionist is a lot more aggressive than the waiter (additional details here). While the actual event will be happening in private, people might see Pal and co bundling the two NPCs into Pal’s room in the manor or hear about what went down.

What: Numbers Station
Where: Cactus Pad
When: 5.2, 5.3 (unless/until interrupted)
A puzzle appears in the Cactus Pad. In the first week, the music changes. Now, it plays Franz Schubert’s “Ständchen”. Between each repeat of the song, the piano will play a series of numbers in Morse code on the C4 note.
There is a small, convoluted walkie-converted-radio on the very corner of the music shelf. It is set up to broadcast only out on a frequency that is not being used by the walkie talkie network. A small heart-covered sticky note that says ‘please do not move’ has been tacked to it. The radio receives no incoming messages. The broadcast cannot be picked up by walkie talkies.
(cipher details for characters who are nerds and want to crack it)
The Morse code says the following, sans punctuation: 031 - 023 - 023 - 041 - 373 - 021 - 461 - 543 - 373 . 315 - 041 - 373 - 471 . 201 - 041 - 501 - 351 . 315 - 041 - 023 - 068 - 501 - 315 - 373 . 201 - 542 - 501 - 041. This tune remains in ¾ score as is the song, with beats of silence to reset measures as needed.The numbers correspond to the measures and notes in “Ständchen”: the first two numbers are a measure; the third number is the note in the measure. From there, it is a basic substitution on the bass clef’s chromatic scale. If cracked, it is a distress signal which says: ATTENTION. SEND HELP. RETURN HOME.
A handwritten composition of Ständchen” has been left on the piano’s music desk. It will have the relevant notes underlined. (So, a character who would like to crack the code and has an understanding of Morse code and the chromatic scale can absolutely reasonably do so regardless of music ability.) The chromatic scale is possible to reverse engineer based on the provided information.
It’s ridiculously complicated for no good reason. Don’t ask them why the message wasn’t just in Morse code, tysm.

What: With the help of Dax, Cam, and some other friends, Palamedes has established a quarantine taking up most of a floor of the Staywell. Pal will be trying to get as many infected people to go there as he can. He can't force anyone, so will be relying on convincing people to go there during their lucid moments. Once inside the quarantine area, anyone who is infected will have to pass by a ward that will deliver a harmless but painful electric shock--so escape isn't fun, but is doable. Thanks to *necromancy magic*, anyone who isn't infected can pass unharmed.
Where: Staywell
When: Starting about midway through Week 1-end of the month.

What: Building a fortress to ward off the rain and the infected. Using leaves and the building structure of the bathhouse to protect against the acid and hopefully against the infected.
Open to folks with ideas of how to tell if someone is infected, and anyone who wants to help build it or stock it with food. The intention is for Yuri to survive the month, and anyone is welcome to join in!
Where: The bathhouse
When: All month, starting end of the first week.
