1.3 Event Plotting
1.3 Plotting & Happenings
OOC announcements
This one's a doozy! A couple reminders to get us started:This month, there is an IC event log, with comments for each week. Feel free to use this for your TLs, or create your own logs as usual. There will not be a mini-event mid-month.
Use the damage report form if your character damages or makes permanent changes to anything. Damage and change is permanent for the foreseeable future.
Post any bulletins to the bulletin board.
This post encompasses the month 1.3's events and effects. Use this post to plot with each other, using the form provided if you so choose.
NEW THIS MONTH
The hotel’s special for the month: bandannas and goggles.
The food at the buffet is far worse than you’re used to: it’s bland and flavorless, and oddly gritty. Your room doesn’t get refreshed every day. In fact, if you look closely, your room looks far worse for wear than you remember: there are cracks in the ceiling, it gets hotter in the day and colder at night, dust and dirt are built up in the corners.
When you visit the few other locations in town, you’ll find the employees more subdued than usual, and they may say some strange things, in addition to the handful of phrases they usually say:

When you visit the few other locations in town, you’ll find the employees more subdued than usual, and they may say some strange things, in addition to the handful of phrases they usually say:
The receptionist: “Bit windy out there.”
Owner of the General Store: “Still got some jam! Livens up just about anything.”
The bartender: “Thinking about packing it in ‘til this storm blows over.”
The waiter: “It isn’t so bad! We’ll make it through this, we always do.”
The gravedigger: Watches you from in her shack in the graveyard.
The sheriff: Sits at his desk, and doesn’t frequent the saloon.
BOARD THE WINDOWS
Content warnings: natural disasters, potential for injury by sand, bottomless pits
The weather steadily worsens over the month. Each week brings something new:
During the day, the heat has settled to a slightly more reasonable level. It’s eerily quiet. Animals can be seen hightailing it out of town. Jackrabbits flee into the night, snakes and scorpions appear in broad daylight, trying to get the hell out of dodge. There is a distinct lack of birdsong.
At night, high, hot winds whistle past the Staywell.
Dust devils whirl down the streets, knocking loose boards from buildings and flinging sand into eyes and ears and mouths.
The sandstorm rolls in fast: one minute you are on the street in the heat of the sun; the next, it’s as black as midnight, wind is whipping past your ears and shoving sand into your face. You may want to board up your own windows.
If you’re caught outside when the storm begins, it can be almost impossible to find your way back into shelter. Sandstorms roar to life in the blink of an eye, lasting anywhere from minutes to hours, with no clear pattern. Sand whips at you with what feels like malice. It gets into your eyes and your nose and your ears, clogging your senses, making it hard to breathe. It’s sharp enough to scrape and cut you bloody, seeking out your soft parts like it’s guided that way. You can protect yourself by covering your skin, ears, and eyes from the sand.
The Diner’s windows shatter, and it closes down and the waiter is nowhere to be seen. The General Store and Cactus Pad board up their windows, and the bartender is often found sweeping sand out of the saloon. The pool is full of dust and grit, turning the water a churning, awful yellow.
The only place untouched by the storms is the graveyard, which is oddly free of sand.
At random hours, the ground shakes, enough to fling objects from shelves and knock people into each other. Fissures and sinkholes split in the ground outside at during these earthquakes, enough to swallow entire buildings.
The sandstorms are near constant. Only a few scant hours of each day are clear of sand and wind, and if you venture out during those hours, the town looks almost unrecognizable, half-buried under sand, lifeless. The wind howls and whines, and there seem to be strange voices on it now, voices you half-recognize, shouting mournful warnings.
If you go out during a lull in the sand, you may find useful weapon handles poking up from the sand. The weapons are old and rusted, but still work. They can be any sort of weapon you’re familiar with, including the joke weapons from last month.
The diner is cut off from everything else by a massive gaping fissure in the ground. The General Store splits in two and shakes apart, its inventory swallowed by a sinkhole. The Cactus Pad closes and the jail is gone, replaced with a sand dune. The bartender, the general store owner, and the sheriff are nowhere to be found.
The Staywell is an island, the ground around it fallen away into bottomless darkness. Outside, the storm rages constantly, cutting off the sun, so that the light is either heavy and red or black as midnight. The voices on the wind scream constant warnings, calling out the names of characters in town, beckoning. Earthquakes shake the ground, hitting every hour or so. You can’t see it through the gloom, but you can hear the last of the buildings in town collapsing into sinkholes.
Only a spider-thin path of rock, treacherous and shaky, remains. It leads from the Staywell to the graveyard, although it’s hard to get there. It’s narrow, dropping off into seething sand or darkness. There are gaps, just big enough to jump across with a bit of force, and rocks tumble away from your feet as you walk. Hopefully it’s not a one-way trip.
The only NPC left in town, the receptionist, seems unconcerned. He politely tells you “bit windy out there.” That’s the only dialogue he says.

The Cactus Pad closes and the jail is gone, replaced with a sand dune. The bartender, the general store owner, and the sheriff are nowhere to be found.
Week 4
The Staywell is an island, the ground around it fallen away into bottomless darkness. Outside, the storm rages constantly, cutting off the sun, so that the light is either heavy and red or black as midnight. The voices on the wind scream constant warnings, calling out the names of characters in town, beckoning. Earthquakes shake the ground, hitting every hour or so. tl;dr:
- Week 1: All the animals are gone, and dust devils kick up in the streets.
- Week 2: Sandstorms hit the town at all hours, making the outdoors inhospitable. The sand hurts, and tries to find its way into your soft, squishy parts. The wind howls with unearthly wails. The diner is closed.
- Week 3: The sandstorms are near-constant, and earthquakes shake the town. You can find weapons in the sand dunes. The diner is cut off from town by a fissure, the General Store falls into a sinkhole, the Cactus Pad closes, and the jail becomes a sand dune.
- Week 4: Earthquakes have shaken apart the ground around the Staywell, and it’s left on an island in the middle of deep fissures in the ground. Only a thin, treacherous path to the graveyard remains. Sandstorms, earthquakes, and unearthly wailing is constant.
- You can protect yourself from the sand by covering your whole body, but it still won’t be easy to go outside.
SEEING DOUBLE
Content warnings: Potential psychological and physical horror, body horror, rotting flesh
If the fleeing fauna and the whispering wind weren’t ominous enough, the first week also brings something strange. Appearing out of nowhere are familiar figures: yourselves.
Everyone seems to have an identical doppelganger. However, these doubles are no ordinary doppelgangers: they are the absolute worst version of you, the version of yourself you are most afraid of becoming. They’ve disappointed your parents and let your friends down; they’ve committed every single crime on those wanted posters; they are arrogant, smug, weak-willed, sniveling.
They seem to know more about you than you do, and they will use that to try and convince you and everyone else that they’re the real version. They have memories that you don’t, know things you don’t. They are you, after all!
The doppelgangers try to tear your life apart in whatever way seems most fun to you. They can try to kill you or your friends with strength and weapons you don’t seem to have access to. They can try to ruin your reputation and the relationships you’ve built. They can do whatever would be most devastating to your character. They get more aggressive as the month goes along.
When they touch you, from the point of contact outward, searing pain rolls under your skin as it begins to rot. Your thoughts, memories, and sense of self warp and turn to hazy static. The longer they hold on, the worse these effects will be, and the stronger the doppelganger will get. If they hold on long enough, you’ll simply die.
Killing your double seems to be the only way to reverse any of these effects. It will be hard, and it will be bloody and probably a little scarring, but it can be done. When they die, they’ll fall down in place and quickly rot before your eyes. Over the course of several minutes, they’ll become a bloody skeleton.
They’ll appear seemingly out of nowhere and disappear again when it’s convenient, although they can certainly be tracked, if you’re fast enough to follow.
If they aren’t killed, they’ll stalk you all month long, trying to ruin your life and take your place. Good luck!

- Killing your double reverses the effects on your body. When killed, the double will rot into a bloody skeleton.
DIGGING DEEPER
Content warnings: Grave digging, rotting flesh, decay
The path to the graveyard gets more and more treacherous as the month progresses. The first week, it's simply walking over. The second, you're buffeted by sand. The third, the ground shakes, the rumbling growing more and more dangerous the closer you get. The fourth, the narrow path is difficult to traverse, requiring jumps over chasms that descend further than you can see, along with the wind, sand, and tremors.
Once you enter the graveyard, the wind calms, somewhat, and the sand still blows, but is no longer as malicious. The graveyard seems to have aged since you were last here. The graves are more worn, the ground is crumbling, the gate dilapidated. Rubble and rocks scatter the area.
If you manage to track your double, they will lead you to the graveyard. Most of the graves have been dug up. When not trying to ruin your life, your double will return to a grave with your name on it. However, the doubles don’t want you to be there. They will attack if they catch you creeping through the graveyard. The gravedigger is nowhere to be found.
Deeper in the graveyard, where all the cracks seem to lead, is the well. The well looks like it was built yesterday: the stones are clean and dewy. A bucket rests on its lip. If you look in the well, you can't see the bottom.
What else do you find in the graveyard? Comment under the Exploration comment to search around.

I'm also interested in having him explore the graveyard looking for his double. Would destroying his gravestone do anything? And would looking into either his own grave or attempting to make his way down the well yield anything in particular?

General ideas or plans for the month:
Cece's breaking out of statue mode just in time for the worst weather her hair has ever experienced (so FAR)
She's not dexterous enough for doing any exploring, but i'd love her to be damsel fodder for some rescues out in the sandstorms and avoiding falling to her doom!
I also want her to help people recover FROM getting out of the storms - she can mend clothes and help dust y'all off
Let's grumble about the shitty food together in the hotel
Also someone help her board up her room windows SHE'S NOT BUILT FOR HOME REPAIRS
Event ideas:
Hey so raise your hand if you want to confront a fully-kitted level 15 sorceress out to nuke Cecelia and anyone preventing her from doing so?
Also let me know if you want to: get killed by her
Or want to be the one TO kill her
We'll make a thing of it it'll be fun

General impressions of your character: Calm, polite man, who is brooding and serious. He doesn't smile much but generally tries to be helpful.
CR you're interested in: all of it.
CR you're not interested in: Hate for the sake of hate.
General ideas or plans for the month:
Diluc is going to be investigating what he can. But also trying to gather supplies to help others out. While his double tries to murder him. Either creepy ass voidy thing or badass looking armored guy? We'll see.
Event ideas:
Diluc's double will be roaming around. Diluc wants to not think of the past? Too bad. He wants to avoid what shattered his heart? Too bad. This double will be full of terrible truths and very obviously too emotional to be the real one.
Finally the graveyard. Diluc wants to see what the fuck is there and what it means. He'll grab a blade while he roams around too.

OOC limitations: none!
Character name: Flynn Scifo
Permissions: right this way
General impressions of your character: Always stressed, never blessed, a nervous golden retriever who holds himself like a military man and desperately wants to help, please let him help
CR you're interested in: A L L CR, opens arms wide, please come to me, especially if you have complicated feelings about authority or need a sunshine jock to drag you out of your shell. Or if you are a hot competent boy and don't mind flynn getting a one-sided dumb gay crush which has happened a truly shocking # of times
CR you're not interested in: none give it to meeee
General ideas or plans for the month: First things first, we are buying a house and moving into it this month, so I have no idea at all what my activity level will be like.
-week 1, Flynn's finally going to explore the desert. I am going to put up a probably ooc post about this unless folks would like to thread it out so we can all discuss what they do and where they go! He's going to do this at the end of the week so we can potentially slam a sandstorm into them which could require a dramatic rescue / having to stumble back to town. Hit me up here if you're interested or just tag onto the ooc post when I put it up!
Event ideas:
-as event stuff is happening, Flynn's room is going to become uninhabitable. He's staying with Yuri so that's mostly okay, but their room is also going to blow in week 2 which means LOBBY SLEEPOVER, will be putting up a top-level for that in week 2
-flynn's going to try to fight the desert and go out for supplies, he will probably need to be rescued several times and is also available to rescue other people from the sand & earthquakes. Let him help! He's going to form a little search and rescue squad! Join him!
-SEEKING VOLUNTEERS from among Flynn's existing CR: Flynn's double is going to try to absolutely destroy his relationships. Just sabotage the hell out of them. If anyone who is a friend or even a lowkey buddy would like to jump on this and get a confusing thread with a guy who is doing his best to seem like Flynn, let me know!! I'll probably do like 2? 3? of these threads.
-open to someone else eventually killing Flynn's double as his violence escalates, or if you'd like to be attacked by a VERY very competent knight, Twynn's your guy
-please throw your nasty doubles at me I covet them
-literally anything else I'm so excited
Are you planning to create a log this month? Yes! I'll be putting up several prompts on the event post as well as that exploration ooc post

Mayoi Ayase | Enstars
Your pronouns: They/Them
Contact:
OOC limitations: Nothing is off limits rn. We gonna go hard this month.
Character name: Mayoi
Permissions: Here!!
General impressions of your character:
The definition of skrunkly. He's the purple haired weirdo standing in the corner who looks like he might die of consumption any moment. He walks around like a ghost and sometimes sneaks up on people on accident. He can be seen singing sometimes in the Staywell lobby. He's a nightowl and if he's outside he's always wearing a hat with a veil to protect him from the sun.
CR you're interested in: Give me all of it plz
CR you're not interested in: Negative CR is fine because he's weird but like. hit me up about it first.
General ideas or plans for the month:
Mayoi's Doppleganger is going to be a lot. He's going to basically be the manifestation of all the intrusive thoughts he's been dealing with all this time but cranked up to 11, so he's a Yandere Stalker who will be threatening to drug or kidnap you to keep you from leaving him. He will be unapologetically stalking Mayoi's CR and will have no issue breaking into rooms to watch you sleep. honestly ANYONE WANNA DO A KIDNAPPING PLOT? because that might be fun.
Mayoi is going to kill this guy while also dying himself and i would love for someone to be there when it happens.
Event ideas:
When not being in a vicious battle to the death with the physical embodiment of his self-hatred, he will also be checking out the graveyard! Come investigate with him! Corpse party!

Character name: Min-Gi Park

General impressions of your character: Generally polite if maybe a bit uptight. He gets nervous sometimes. Usually he dresses pretty neatly!
CR you're interested in: Pretty much anything!
CR you're not interested in: There isn't much I wouldn't be down for.
General ideas or plans for the month:
Obviously doppelgangers! I'm thinking Twin-Gi will be a smug dick. He will be a lot more confident about the rock and roll lifestyle and care a lot less about the things that could go wrong. He won't be nervous about consequences and is a lot more willing to do whatever he needs to get what he wants. It's looking like he's going to have a very hot/cold relationship with Ryan's double, and some not ideal views about his own sexuality. I will obviously be warning for homophobia where it's relevant and be aiming to keep it out of threads where I don't know the other player's comfort level.
The sandstorms/earthquakes are going to be freaking him out past week one so he will be avoiding going out whenever he can.
Event ideas: DOUBLES DOUBLES DOUBLES. Throw your nasty double at Min-Gi. Let Twin-Gi at your characters. Or! Doubles teaming up with doubles. I would be very down for that.
Min-Gi is unlikely to be able to kill his own double, so expect Twin-Gi to be around all or at least most of the month.
Are you planning to create a log this month? Yes. Could be on the event post, or might be a log. It will be a fun surprise!

OOC limitations: Noooone kill him, have him kill your guy, i'm down
Character name: Yuri Lowell
Permissions: here
General impressions of your character: Chill dude getting more Stressed by the day.
CR you're interested in: Ride or diiiie (but also like everything else)
CR you're not interested in: wtv
General ideas or plans for the month:
Yuri will try to make being inside less miserable. He has sweets in his room that he will share.
He'll also be on patrol, helping people stuck outside, trying to ward off doubles. Maybe he could help make up some sort of code to identify the doubles?? Idk there's something there. He can be a good buddy for rescues / exploration.
Event ideas:
Evil Yuri is going to be like what if Yuri stayed in the knights and lost his morals. He's going to be cold and rude, and will start the month trying to slander Yuri to people by telling stories about how he's killed people, and being overtly rude and irritating.
Toward the end of the month, he'll be down to kill people, especially if they're friends with Yuri.
Also down for Yuri to be killed in the right situation, and/or for him to give an assist to killing other doppels.
He will also explore the graveyard, probably from week 2 onwards. I'd love him to do the scary path in week 4, for fun.

Darin Altway | Original Character
Your pronouns: He/Him
Contact:
OOC limitations: I'm good with anything, y'all
Character name: Darin Altway
Permissions: Right here!
General impressions of your character: Darin is incredibly loud, boisterous, speaks what's on his mind, but is generally kind and easily approachable. He's tall and muscular but he's just a big ol' shounen goofball at heart.
CR you're interested in: Any kind! Positive, negative, give me what you got
CR you're not interested in: I can't really think of anything, to be honest.
General ideas or plans for the month: OKAY SO:
WEEK ONE: Darin would probably take note of animals skipping town. That usually means something bad is coming so he'll probably spend the week looking to shore up whatever things he can around the hotel and he'd love some help! Bring materials, some muscle, and your best conversation topics because he's a workaholic and will be putting his nose to the grindstone. Also, if anyone wants to look after the idiot and make sure he doesn't get heat stroke and die while he's working, that'd be neat too.
WEEK TWO: He's going to be going out when he can to try and find people who might be caught in this mess. Depending on whether or not hunkering down in an abandoned building is possible, I'm open to finding others and taking shelter with them or even being helped out of a tight spot himself! I'm flexible!
WEEK THREE: You better believe he's going out scrounging. Rusted or not, weapons are weapons and they're still valuable materials. A scavenging partner would be great for sure. Also, he might want to see if he can get over the fissure to the Diner. Encourage him or talk him out of it! Your choice!
WEEK FOUR: Enough is enough. Darin's going to want to get to that graveyard, against his better judgement and see what he can find. This will also likely result in the final battle with his superpowered doppelganger, so if anyone wants to brave this trial with him and maybe throw down with an evil doppelganger or two, I'm game. Definitely see the next part about what his evil twin will be capable of.
Event ideas: So, Darin's doppelganger is literally everything he'd be afraid of becoming if he still had his memories. Corrupted by power and the knowledge that he's basically his world's equivalent of a demonic demigod, he will have zero qualms doing physical, emotional, and collateral damage. He's got all of the powers Darin has: super strength, heightened resilience, and transmutation magic and none of the hang ups about abusing them. As of this moment, Darin only knows he has super strength so this is gonna be a bit of trip for him. If you want to throw down with a super powered shounen protag, I can absolutely play the villain for your thread. Do you want to be killed by him? We can totally do that too! And if you're interested in taking him down in week four (because Darin will need the help), then let's talk!
Are you planning to create a log this month? I haven't decided yet, but it's likely!

Palamedes Sextus | The Locked Tomb
Your pronouns: she/her

OOC limitations: 1) I'm tagging kind of slow right now but try to get back to threads every 2-3 days. 2) I'm good with anything, but let's talk about it first if you want to do violence to Pal!
Character name: Palamedes Sextus
Permissions: Right here!
General impressions of your character: Gangly, inquisitive, friendly weirdo. Starting to get a bit ragged around the edges, especially this month, but basically holding it together
CR you're interested in: All the things! I love the friendships he's developing and want more. I'd also love for him to get some frenemies/rivals/people he bickers with.
CR you're not interested in: Nothin' in particular
General ideas or plans for the month:
Pal will generally be trying to keep spirits up (his own and others') and keep people safe. Thanks to Doublemedes (see below), he will definitively learn that he has powers and will begin to experiment with them. In particular, he will be practicing psychometry and (given everything happening outside) the creation of basic force fields. His force fields won't be very good yet, but may make him a useful exploration buddy.
Pal is also going to be having a slow, quiet nervous breakdown as Doublemedes' behavior convinces him that he might have been a Bad Person.
Event ideas:
Yeah, you heard that right, Doublemedes is here and is ready to cause some drama. You know all those creepy scientist serial killer tropes? That's this guy in a nutshell. He has all of Pal's canon abilities and isn't afraid to use them. At the beginning of the month, you will find him torturing small animals and insects that haven't managed to leave town; by the end, he'll be attempting to raise a skeleton army in the graveyard. His goal is to destroy Well and all of the "reals," as he thinks that is the only way he and the other doubles will be free. As such, he is willing to make alliances with other doubles as well.
In the spirit of The Locked Tomb, Doublemedes' eyes will be a subtly different color than Pal's--instead of being a polished-gemstone grey, they will be a stormlike black-and-grey swirl.
Pal and Doublemedes will be having a final showdown in the graveyard in week 3 or 4--anyone want to join him?
Are you planning to create a log this month? Yup, for real this time! I'll put some event-specific prompts in the event post and am happy to do a catch-all for specific threads, too.

For Yuri and Pal prime, honestly anything could be fun with them. I would love them talking about their bad selves together in some context.

Character name: Noah
Permissions: boop
General impressions of your character: Looks like a normal 18 year old teenager. He has a mark on his hand, a tattoo that delineates how long he has to live. Usually has a flute with him and if you look closely in his right eye, there is an ouroboros mark glittering there.
CR you're interested in: All!
CR you're not interested in: N/A
General ideas or plans for the month: Noah will piggyback other people's exploration plans since he doesn't quite have the drive to do that yet. Or focus on learning more about the town and himself.
Event ideas: So Noah has a canonical opposite doppleganger called N. N is very much cruel, calculating, unhinged and violent. Most of that violence will be directed at Noah since he's one to draw it out, torture him, take people Noah cares about away from him.
So if anyone wants their character to get hurt/maimed, perfect chance!! Also help him get rid of his evil self. tyvm
Are you planning to create a log this month? I will top level in the log!
