HANDWAVED CR MEME

We're all settling in just right to the new, improved Wellstone. But what is your character up to outside of the horrors? How do they persist? Use this form to brainstorm how you're characters have been vibing on the day-to-day!

Character Name: Palamedes Sextus

Where they hang out: Pal is spending a lot of time exploring and documenting the new surroundings, but when he isn’t, he’s often holed up by the fire in the Staywell parlor! If you come near him, he may offer you tea. He also spends an odd amount of time in the graveyard, despite how difficult it is to get there.

Activities they often do: As noted above, Pal is doing a lot of exploring. You’ve probably seen him poking seemingly-uninteresting rocks, collecting plant samples, or attempting to map both the inn (mostly successfully) and the hedge maze (much less successfully). To outside observers, his explorations don’t look like they have much rhyme or reason to them, but he does have a system. Probably. Maybe.

What they're like at mealtimes: Pal very, very often forgets to eat, even when sitting in a place that traditionally serves food. He is known to sit somewhere nursing a cup of tea and a corner of toast for hours while writing furiously in one of his many notebooks. Out of the blue, he may ask you a question or fill you in on what he’s working on, often beginning his explanation in the middle of the thought.

What their current vibe is: These days, Pal is friendly but somewhat aloof. He has had a lot go down in the last couple months that has made him more likely to play his cards close to the chest, a change that’s subtle, but that people who have known him since the beginning might notice. He’ll gladly chat with you when you approach him, but he might seem like he is thinking about something else, and is less likely to strike up casual conversations.

What CR are you interested in: Always looking for more science buddies and exploration buddies! Also would love for him to interact with people who want to know wtf the whole Skelebrawl thing was about. He's also still available for medical check-ups.

Anything else? Pal is also often with Camilla Hect, so if you see him on the regular, you probably see her, too, and vice versa.

like random food being brought to you? good news, your good buddy the literal golden retriever probably sits down at mealtimes with a full entire plate of food. Is it good food? sometimes! probably!!

Anyway he definitely has Fireside Buddy Time with Pal, and probably joins him in poking around by picking things up with a sort of "is this anything" energy while presenting Pal with random rocks. Helping!

Honestly, given his friends, Pal probably eats plenty in Well, but only when someone has put something in front of him. Pal definitely makes fun of Flynn's food choices, but he never outright rejects them.

he is way too kind and that does mean he has eaten such horrors as:

-Mayonnaise and grape jelly sandwich
-Pickled herring, prickly pear jam and breakfast oats parfait
-pancakes topped with canned fish from the general store

yuri definitely just bothers him a lot when he sees him around. asks him dumb questions and half listens to the answers. makes a lot of jokes about bones and blood and stuff

yeeesssss, I love their chill friendship! Pal just looks at him blankly when he makes bone jokes and sometimes tries to correct him/clarify. At which point I imagine Yuri looking straight at the camera Jim-from-The-Office style.

oh man if that's the case Yuri will just make them more and more absurd until they're not even sex jokes anymore, they're just wild and make no sense to anymore. i love this.

At a certain point Yuri starts to wonder if Pal is actually messing with him to see how insane his jokes get.

You know, last cycle Dax was trying to map the sky to figure out a) how time was moving and b) in advance of the resetting people kept discussing. If it's something he'd be interested in, I think it'd be fun to say she's working with him on it in the background, mayhaps?

Ooooo I LOVE THIS. Definitely can imagine it being project Pal would help with! Also like to imagine them sharing whatever bits and pieces of their space station life they remember while they're working on it. :D

CUTE... absolutely. Dax specifically has little pieces of
- being on the promenade's upper level and looking down over the main walkways
- it wasn't just a military station (multiple uniform sets + the people in Quark's)
- looking out the big windows to the stars
- engineering ducts and long hallways that all look the same

LOVE IT. Pal things:
- watching servitor skeletons do maintenance on the viewscreen, the fact that, in comparison to DS9, the Library didn't have windows
- hanging out in his bunk with Cam (and generally the whole dormitory system)
- the general idea that there were lots of levels and lots of university-style multipurpose meeting rooms
- the general lack of paper/wood/cotton/other organic materials
- I also think that Dax might pick up on the fact that, despite how familiar many aspects of the Library sound, Pal seems to remember surprisingly few computers and hand-held communications devices.

John mostly leaves him alone: he does not knock at the Sixth door anymore, he keeps his distance at meals, one time he walks into the bathhouse and the Sixth get to exchange awkward silence with God in a towel. The atmosphere is brittle and tense.

HOWEVER, he cannot resist sharing necromancy and lore tidbits, and sometimes waves Pal over to the table where he's having tea. Pal is always stiffly, formally polite, but sometimes gets distracted long enough to sit and have a look at John's theorems.

John sometimes chooses a nearby table in an agonizingly silent room until Pal caves and shares whatever notes he's working on.

Pal can notice that John spends a substantial amount of time with Dax doing seemingly harmless nerd shit and with Flynn fucking around or making increasingly complex treebark constructs.

Everything about this is absolutely PERFECT. 10/10, no notes.

I think this will come up in the party thread, but Pal is increasingly speculating that Well is essentially thanergenic and recommending they treat it as such for necromancy purposes, and he'll want to brainstorm with John about this (do I know what this means in practice? nope!) He is also going to give in and ask John about different kinds of plants he has collected.

OH NO... SOFT.... John will explain different plants to him, first from a necromantic perspective, then increasingly as a guy who spent a lot of his life around trees and ferns. They both silently agree not to unpack this.
