Welcome to a special edition of the Wellstone Post! We've got some important updates on the end of April's event, a plot twist, and the player cap.
IC Event Outcome
As the month comes to a close, the storm intensifies, whipping through the town at ungodly speeds, taking out everything and everyone in its path. The tremors get worse and worse, intensifying to the point where no one can leave the hotel, and bits of the Staywell start to collapse. At midnight on the last day of the month, the worst earthquake yet hits, and the building shakes apart while the sandstorm shrieks outside.
This has the strong potential to
kill characters.
Your characters, if you choose to kill them,
don’t have to remember dying and will not lose a memory. They will know that they died, but the memory of it will be hazy and distant or altogether gone. This death does not have to be recorded on the death page. If you choose to kill your character, consider it a consequences-free trauma gift!
Characters who don’t die will feel the hotel begin to shake apart, and can shelter on the last few bits of remaining rock. The darkness outside is full of the crash of rocks and the howl of wind. It feels very much like the world is ending, like there’s no way they’re going to make it.
And then, just when things are at their worst, the world goes black.
When characters wake up on the first of the new month, it is to an airy, stone-washed lobby, bright sunlight, and a very, very familiar sound.
“Welcome to Wellstone. We’re so glad you’re here with us! What’s the name on your reservation?”
That’s right, everyone.
You’re in a time loop.
OH SHIT REALLY?
Yes! Kind of. This is one of the things we’ve had planned from the beginning, and we’re very excited about it. We’ll be updating the FAQ with some time loop stuff, but in short:
Events themselves will not repeat (that would get boring), but there are specific beats that you’ll recognize from previous loops that will repeat. Consider these anchor points. Are they changeable? You’ll have to try and see!
Starting on May 1st, the town will completely reset to the way it was when characters first arrived back in Month 1. This means that the damage everyone caused, and the damage from the storm, is gone, like it never happened at all. This also means that exterior player additions, like (for example) a secret schoolhouse hoard, a camp, or the beginnings of a blacksmithing forge, are gone.
You can choose how many of your characters’ items carry over. Generally, anything that was in their hotel room or on their person will still be there, but we’re flexible, and you can be meaner than that if you’d like. This extends to the exterior of rooms (we’re looking at you, Mayoi! You can keep your tea garden).
We’ll be reiterating the status of the town in the May event, so don’t worry if you can’t remember the way things were exactly.
PLAYER CAP UPDATE
A massive thank-you to everyone who filled out our feedback form! If you haven’t yet and you have an opinion,
let us know right over here. We really appreciate it, and we hear y’all on wanting to keep the small, intimate feel of Well while wanting to make space for new folks.
Effective this upcoming app round, the player cap is going up by 5, for a total of
30 players.
This should keep us feeling small and cozy, but also make sure no one feels a ton of pressure at app time to get in and get in fast which is simply not the vibe.
As always, we’re open to re-evaluating down the line as the needs of the game change, and we really appreciate some of the ideas folks put forward that would support things like that! We also appreciated hearing what is working for y'all and what we could do better. Keep an open line with us about your thoughts and feelings and we’ll do our best to balance them all. You're all the best!
